High Stakes Poker Series 5 COMING!
After months of intense speculation over whether the program would actually air, Hold’em fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief last month as GSN officially announced the return of the best poker show on TV, High Stakes Poker, with a complete line-up for the new series.
Season five of High Stakes will see the return of familiar faces Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, Eli Elezra, Barry Greenstein and Phil Hellmuth, but fans of the show can also expect to see a few exciting new names making their HS debut. First and foremost, last year’s World Series champion Peter Eastgate will be resuming rivalries with the mercurial Muscovite Ivan Demidov in a rematch of the 2008 main event final.
Next up are young internet phenoms Tom “Durrr” Dwan and Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, who will be hoping that they can establish something of a new order among the live cash game elite by showing the old-school pros how they do things online. With Dwan already having thrown down the gauntlet by issuing a $1.5 million online heads-up challenge, his run ins with rival Phil Ivey over the season will no doubt whet the appetite for their big clash later in the year.
One thing’s for sure, with the new minimum buy-in for the show being doubled from previous seasons to $200,000, the new High Stakes promises to be compelling viewing of card fans and gambling degenerates the world over.
