Jason Mercier becomes Champion of Champions

Jason Mercier has won the inaugural European Poker Tour Champion of Champions tournament.

The 24-year-old American came through a field of 50 former EPT winners to claim victory at the Casino Gran Madrid, winning himself €50,000 of buy-ins to EPT Season 8 events in the process.

The 13-hour tournament saw Mercier – who qualified for the tournament off the back of his EPT San Remo win in Season 4 – triumph over 2011 PCA champion Galen Hall, the latter claiming €25,000 of Season 8 buy-ins for his second-place finish. Team PokerStars Pro Max Lykov finished third for €15,000 buy-ins.

A victorious Mercier said of his success: “I’m extremely happy. It was a tough tournament. Really good players came out and, when we got deep, I did think at one point that I was going to bubble it.”

The Champion of Champions tournament was the final event of the EPT Grand Final Festival.
