WPT Season X Kicks off in Spain
Just a week after Scott Seiver took down the season IX finale at the Bellagio in Las Vegas for $1,618,344, the world’s best live poker tour, the WPT, is back with the tenth incarnation of its series. Taking place at the Gran Casino Barcelona, the WPT Spanish Championship attracted a healthy field of 94 players on Day 1A, despite an ash cloud hampering flights across Europe.
On display on the opening day was Spanish sweetheart Leo Margets, Finnish star Juha Helppi and recent EPT Snowfest runner-up Kevin Vandermissen. The action started off brisk and by the end of the day just 54 players had survived. Coming out on top of the chip counts was Artur Koren with 122,800, just ahead of Michele Danielo, Julien Mariana and Justin Tazelaar.
More entrants are expected to ante-up the €3,500 buy-in when the action kicks off later today. In total it is expected that the winner of the event will walk away with over €250,000. The four day tournament will culminate with a final table that is scheduled to be streamed live via the Party Poker blog. The feed will show hole cards and be commentated by “The Voice of Poker” Jesse May.
