The World Poker Tour continues to become a truly WORLD tour with the recent addition of two new legs to the year’s schedule.
A WPT World Championship warm-up leg in Romania–a €3,300 No Limit Hold’em event–will be held at Bucharest’s Regent Casino. The latest Eastern European jaunt kicks off on March 27th and is the first WPT event to be held in the EU newcomer.
Coming the other side of the World Championship, the Grand Prix de Paris returns to the legendary Aviation Club de France from May 8th–13th. A €10,000 buy-in and 30,000 starting stacks should ensure a stellar turnout and plenty of action, together with the fact that a €20,000 High Rollers event is also scheduled.
The 2010 visit to the Aviation Club marks the first WPT event in Paris since 2006 and the Grand Prix has always served up some classic confrontations. The first WPT Grand Prix took place in 2003 and saw David Benyamine beat Jan Boubli to the title. Also at the final table was Full Tilt Poker pro Erick Lindgren, then a relative unknown. In 2005, Roland de Wolfe bested Juha Helppi, outlasting a field of 160 players and setting him on the path to his poker Triple Crown. However, the 2004 leg was perhaps the most memorable, featuring some true heart and commitment from Tony G as he narrowly lost to Surindar Sunar in the heads-up confrontation.
€50 rebuy satellites take place at the Aviation from May 1st for the Main Event, so with a relatively short trip over to France, it’s certainly a stop you should be checking out. |
