WPT World Championship: Unofficial Final Table Set

The Unofficial final table for the WPT World Championships was set last night as the surviving 18 players from Day 4 were whittled down to a final nine, with only one unfortunate soul not finishing in the money and securing a payday of at least $40,226.

That unlucky player was Josh Arieh, who’s short-stacked push with AJ was picked off by the pocket kings of Marvin Rettenmaier and failed to improve to send him out on the bubble – much to the delight of fellow micro stacks Phillipe Ktorza and Tom McCormick.

The latter of those two players would eventually go on to bust in 14th place for $43,926 – a result that also meant Joe Serock overtook Will Failla in the Player of the Year standings – but the former fared rather better by not only laddering up the payouts, but surviving the day.

Ktorza will come back tomorrow with 19 big blinds – a remarkable achievement considering he started Day 4 with just 5bb and was the overwhelming favourite to exit on the bubble – and has already guaranteed himself a prize of at least $58,568 for his incredible survival skills.

The last casualty of Day 5 was the unfortunate Serock, who will now have to sweat on the finish of fellow POTY contender Moon Kim (22bb) knowing a fourth place finish for the former WPT champion would tie him for the lead and a third place finish would win the trophy outright.

Fortunately for Serock, Kim will have to navigate his way past a tricky final table topped by chip leader Marvin Rettenmaier (75bb) and also including big name pros Michael Mizrachi (62bb), Steve O’Dwyer (32bb) and Hafiz Khan (32bb), meaning it will be a thrilling conclusion when play resumes.
