All About The Bracelets, Baby: Scotty Nguyen Heads-Up In Event #24
Former World Series of Poker Main Event winner Scotty Nguyen has put himself in a position to add to his career haul of five gold bracelets if he can overcome chip leader Joe Cassidy in the $5,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8-or-Better event.
The two players are currently poised to play out their heads-up battle tomorrow at 2.00pm local time after Nguyen insisted that he was too tired to finish the tournament off despite Cassidy’s wishes to play down to a champion without pause.
Certainly, the overnight break will be of some benefit to both players given how long the final table had lasted up until that point – especially during a prolonged three-way battle in which Phil Ivey came back from the felt on several occasions before finally busting.
The 3rd place finished netted the resurgent player $136,046, but with a ninth WSOP bracelet and the prospect of cashing in on a number of lucrative bets surrounding it the two things he really wanted, there’s no doubt Ivey will have been disappointed to have come so close again.
Hopefully for Nguyen’s sake, the overnight break will have disrupted some of the momentum Cassidy had built up three-handed, because the Californian pro was absolutely crushing the table before play was paused, amassing 3 million in chips to Nguyen’s 845,000 ahead of their title clash.
