Dominik Nitsche Wins Final $1,000 No Limit Event at 2012 WSOP

There have been several $1,000 No Limit Hold’em events this year, and they’ve become as much a part of the furniture at the Rio as a Phil Ivey final table or a Hellmuth blow-up (ok, maybe not so much these days). However, it was still a tightly contested affair, and eventually European hero Dominik Nitsche triumphed to bag himself the gold bracelet and over $650,000 in cash.

The mammoth 4,620-runner field was swiftly cut down to size, with 53 players returning on Day 3 to fight for a final table spot. By the time the final table was set, Nitsche already had a significant chip lead, and sailed through the final eight to win the second gold bracelet for Germany this summer.

By the heads-up phase, Nitsche held a 3-1 lead over American Jonathan Hilton, and despite several double-ups, Nitsche prevailed to knock him out, his K-5 holding up on a 3-J-Q-10-9 board against Hilton’s A-8.
