Kyle Cartwright Ties Circuit Ring Record
Kyle Cartwright has become the joint most-successful player on the World Series of Poker Circuit after he drew level with Mark “Pegasus” Smith on five championship rings by scoring victory at the WSOPC IP Biloxi.
Cartwright emerged victorious from a field of 300 runners yesterday to claim the $107,992 first prize and a little piece of circuit history as he defeated Brad Johnson heads-up to book his place in the end-of-season National Championship.
Heads-up play began with Cartwright holding a seemingly insurmountable chip lead over his opponent, and so it proved as – after just three hands of play – all of the chips went in with Cartwright’s jacks up against the Kh 7h of Johnson.
The Ac 6c 3h 6h 4d board provided no help for Johnson and the knaves held to give him victory and further cement his reputation as an up-and-coming WSOP Circuit player who is destined to replicate his form at the World Series proper in the next couple of years.
The money earned by Cartwright for victory took his all-time career tally up to $570,026 and represented the second biggest cash of his live poker career to date – with the first also coming on the WSOPC at last year’s Harrah’s St. Louis stop where he collected $142,290 for victory.
