Mickey Petersen wins English Poker Open
If he carries on like this Team PokerStars Online’s Mickey Petersen might have to consider crossing out the online part of his title and replace it with ‘Live Pro’. The Dane, has added the English Poker Open title and to the EPT Copenhagen title he won earlier this year.
The £2,000 English Poker Open, sponsored by RakeTheRake, attracted a field of 137 players, the calibre was high, Sam Trickett, James Akenhead and Roberto Romanello all played but didn’t trouble the scoreboard, whilst Neil Channing and Paul Jackson made the money, but not the final table.
Still it was a stacked final table, Petersen had to negotiate obstacles that included Surinder Sunar, Jamie Roberts, Ben Jackson and his eventual heads-up opponent Chris Bjorin.
Bjorin is one of the 10 finalists under consideration for entry into Pokers Hall of Fame in 2012, the 64-year-old has over $5,000,000 in lifetime winnings and two WSOP bracelets. At the start of heads-up play Petersen had a 4.5-1 chip lead and despite doubling up twice, Bjorin couldn’t wrestle the chip lead from Petersen. The final hand saw Petersen shove with pocket nines, Bjorin called with As-Kc, a board of 7h-Td-8h-5s-5h saw Petersen’s pair hold-up and earn him the title.
