Tompkins leads EPT San Remo
It looks like the San Remo EPT title may be staying in the UK and Ireland for a third consecutive year as Irishman Jason Tompkins is the chip leader with 24 players of the 797 players left.
The San Remo event, which is always one of the most popular stops on the tour, was won by Liv Boeree in 2010 and Rupert Elder in 2011, although Tompkins is the only player from the UK and Ireland left in. He leads from long time chip leader Inge Forsmo whilst sharks like Ludovic Lacay, WPT Borgata champion Matt Salsberg and Yevgeniy Timoshenko lurk in the chasing pack.
As well as the €5,000 main event there’s a €10,000 High Roller with re-buys also in progress. Jason Mercier was one of those forced to re-buy, but he busted his second bullet too, although he was in good company as Sam Trickett and Mike McDonald also failed to advance as 45 of the 74 entrants made it through to Day 2. Currently leading the field is Brandon Barnes, whilst Justin Bonomo, Luca Pagano, Jonathan Duhamel and Philipp Gruissem are all comfortably stacked.
