You wait a lifetime for a reality poker show to come along, then wish with all your hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds that two that have come along at the same time hadn’t.
If the trailers for Full House with Johnny Chan and I bet my life starring Liv Boeree and Kevin MacPhee are anything to go by neither will become essential viewing. Although, the former might fall into the category of it’s so bad it’s good. The show features five poker players who Chan stakes for $200,000 each. Let’s just say that I hope that their card skills are better than their acting as the six minute trailer (http://tinyurl.com/9zufevx) seems scripted and is pretty cringeworthy. For instance all the players are basically stereotypes – there’s a genius, a bully, a maverick, a playboy and a queen of hearts. Also Doyle Brunson, is involved somehow. However, the biggest surprise in the trailer is that Chan’s mansion is actually pretty tasteful given the Orient Express’s taste in clobber.
Meanwhile the trailer for Boeree and Macphee’s show gives less away, although the premise of the show is that it follows the couple on the road charting their lives as professional poker players. Their show airs on Sunday 4th November on the Travel Channel and no doubt shortly afterwards on PokerTube.
